Arrival in Glasgow

I was dropped off at the Austin airport by my son, checked my bag, showed the necessary documentation and I was on my way! All flights were on time and uneventful which is always a good thing when traveling. After brief layovers in Atlanta and Amsterdam, I arrived in Glasgow around noon and took the bus to the city center where I was staying that night. Check-in wasn’t until 3:00 so I stored my bag at the hostel and went out in the rain to explore the city for a few hours.

I was ready to see some sights and find something to eat after nearly 15 hours of sitting on airplanes. The hostel was right on the banks of the River Clyde so I followed the river to a nearby park. Unfortunately, the park was blocked off while they were setting up for some kind of big event. I headed back to the city center and found a nice pedestrian area full of shops. There was also a mall so I went in, got some food, and just sat and people-watched until I could go check into the hostel. I was so tired!

Prepping for the West Highland Way

I was finally able to check into my room and get my pack sorted. Tomorrow I would start the West Highland Way! I always try to spend as little money as I can on accommodation since I don’t spend a lot of time in the room. The city center of Glasgow has some amazing, and expensive, hotels but the Euro Hostel ended up being a perfect and inexpensive choice. I had a private room and bath and never saw another person while I was there since I didn’t go to any of the common areas, most of which were closed due to Covid anyway. My day 2 Covid test was there waiting for me, too! That was one of the things I was nervous about, would the test arrive in time, it did. It got packed away until I took the test the next day.
