A very easy day! I slept in as late as I could with the noise of all the others in the albergue getting up and going. Even with trying to be slow and being the third to last person to leave the albergue, it wasn’t quite 8:00 yet. I couldn’t check in to my next albergue until 1:00 so I didn’t need to hurry. It was only slated to be a 10-mile day that actually ended up only being 9.3 miles. A nice change after all of the high mileage days!
I walked slowly today and really tried to take in the scenery and enjoy the journey. Tomorrow would be my last day walking. The terrain was much more flat with only one significant descent and ascent going into and out of Navia. Otherwise, it was a mix of road walking or walking through wide-open fields for much of the miles. And the sun was out early today! No haziness at all just clear blue skies with a refreshing breeze.
Navia
The only sizable city I passed through today was the coastal town of Navia. After descending to the city center, I stopped at a bar and had breakfast, and bought some more cold medication at a Farmacia. After crossing the River Navia and climbing uphill, it was back to the empty farm roads and fields of corn. Even with my attempts at being slow, I still arrived at La Caridad by 11:30. There was a bar around the corner from my albergue so I sat there and had a drink and some ice cream while I passed the time.
I got checked into the albergue and got my chores done. This is a newer private albergue that was very nice and clean. There was an outdoor sink for laundry and the clothesline was in the sun. Yay for dry clothes! I ventured out to the Supermercado to get something for lunch and snacks for the next few days. Tomorrow was another somewhat short day and promised lots of sea views! And, it was my last day on the Camino for this trip.
