The Kerry Way – Day 3

Glencar to Glenbeigh

May 23, 2025

Today would be the shortest day at 8.5 miles. I ate breakfast at the Inn and left shortly thereafter. There were a few more people at the Inn who were on the Kerry Way, so it didn’t feel like a solo effort anymore. I was the first to leave for what would be a relatively easy day with one long hill to climb.

The skies were overcast, but the rain chances were low. There were no villages to walk through today, only a series of distinct woods. The woods appeared to be something out of a fairy tale with dense trees, rocks, and moss. It was gorgeous!

After following a few lonely roads, we started the long, slow climb up to the Windy Gap that would take us over the mountain. There is another split in the trail about halfway up the hill. One would take you over Windy Gap and down to the village of Glenbeigh on the other side. The other way followed roads around the mountain, which might be a good choice in bad weather. I chose Windy Gap, and the views on either side did not disappoint!

Descending the other side, I was met with fantastic views of Glenbeigh and the bay. It was too early to check into my B&B, so I had lunch at the Towers Hotel Bar and celebrated the end of a nice, short day!

Where I stayed:

The accommodation options in Glenbeigh include the Towers Hotel and several B&Bs. And all tend to be on the pricier side. I chose to stay at the Emir View B&B, right in the middle of town on the main street. The B&B hostess and room were lovely. I booked my stay directly with the hostess via email and paid cash upon arrival. The only room available when I booked was a triple room, and I paid €110. Highly recommend!
